Kaolin suspensions of different particle concentrations were prepared by centrifugation of a stock suspension with a high solids content (4b = 0.41 ) containing 0.25 pph NaPA. The supernatant liquid was then used for dilution of the stock suspension to the desired particle concentration.
Clay suspensions can be dfvided into two groups, depending on the influence of the electrolytes on their viscosity. The first group of clays are deflocculated under the influence of all the electrolytes investigated. All the kaolin tested fell into this group.
Four suspensions, approximately 54 in. in height, are shown. All suspensions contain about 26 per cent by weight of the same relatively fine crude clay from East Georgia. Suspension l, on the left, represents a normal deflocculation which has been allowed to settle for 24 hr.
Sigma kaolin (Sigma-Aldrich, St. Louis, MO, USA) wa s used in the adsorption te sts, and Kaofil kaolinite (Thiele Kaolin Company, Sandersville, GA, USA) was purchased in bulk for the flocculation experiments. The vendor reported that the particle size range of the Sigma kaolinite was 0.1–4 µm.
Mar 01, 1984· Rheological properties of elutriated kaolin suspensions deflocculated by Na polyacrylate (DAC 3 and DAC 4) were studied and compared to those deflocculated by the conventional Na2CO3 water and glass and imported Dispex N40. The deflocculating effect of Na polyacrylate was comparable to that of Dispex N40.

The influence of pH upon kaolin dilute suspensions has been investigated using laser diffraction spectrometry (LDS), the results being compared with a series of sedimentation tests. Due to its ability to separately explore most different aspects, following the resultant variation of floc size distribution, this technique appears most promising ...
Aqueous suspensions of kaolin with 42% solids content were prepared. Sodium polyacrylate (3 kg/ton) and sodium silicate (3 kg/ton) were added to kaolin clay suspension as dispersant and ammonium hydroxide (2 kg/ton) was also added to adjust pH. The suspension was blunged at 3100 rpm for 15 min period. In a second step, kaolin

The effects of the electrolyte concentration and pH on the settling behaviour, floc sizes and rheological behaviour of kaolinite suspensions were investigated. The results show that the settling behaviour of kaolinite changes with the ionic
EFFECT OF DIFFERENT POLYHYDROXYLIC DISPERSANTS ON DISPERSION STABILITY OF KAOLIN PARTICLES+Dr. Hadi S. Al-Lami* Abstract Controlling of ceramic properties is considered as one of the important steps that has to be taken.
The deflocculation effect of conventional additives to kaolin suspensions is evaluated from the results standard rheological measurements. Several widely used electrolytes (NaOH, Na2CO3, Na2SiO3, SHMP = sodium hexametaphosphate, and CMC = sodium salts of carboxymethylcellulose) have been tested.
Aqueous suspensions of kaolin are flocculated at low pH. This can be understood in terms of the positively charged edges and the negatively charged faces of the platelets. The deflocculation of kaolin under alkaline conditions is important, and is assisted by adding a polyanion.
A reduction in velocity dispersion due to deflocculation is observed which is consistent with the results of other work for kaolin suspensions with volume fractions of φ=0.08. When partial deflocculation of a kaolin sample with trapped air takes place, then the velocity dispersion is observed to increase . This is consistent with the notion ...

Settling of kaolin suspensions is widely studied as a separation process connected with flocculated kaolin suspensions [9,. ... Deflocculation of kaolin suspensions - The ...
determined individually for each kaolin by recording the flow curves of 10 wt. % kaolin suspensions with different deflocculant content, see Figure 1. It has to be emphasized that the degrees of deflocculation (and delamination) have a decisive effect on the rheological behavior of kaolin suspensions…
Flocculation, in the field of chemistry, is a process wherein colloids come out of suspension in the form of floc or flake, either spontaneously or due to the addition of a clarifying agent. The action differs from precipitation in that, prior to flocculation, colloids are merely suspended in a liquid and not actually dissolved in a solution .
In an alkaline environment the particles repulse each other, this state is called "deflocculation". In the state of deflocculation, the charges on the particles have been neutralized, the particles remain in suspension as single units, with a consequent reduction in viscosity.
Viscosity reduction of aqueous kaolin suspensions by conventional additives (deflocculation) is studied, using standard viscosity measurements.
Deflocculation of Kaolin Suspensions – ... independence of deflocculation effect on kaolin con-centration was verified. For all three tested kaolin con-centrations (30, 35, and 40%) the range of additive con-centrations, which led to lowest viscosities, was the
Specifically, kaolin is commonly incorporated into particle film technology for purification, sprayed onto crops in the form of an aqueous suspension, and allowed to dry, yielding its insecticidal effects and leaving a white appearance.
